Technology provider Hewlett-Packard has recently announced the launch of a range of new security solutions and services that provide enhanced vulnerability assessment, compliance controls and data protection. The company has decided to enhance these services in order to reduce infrastructure risks.

In an announcement released by the technology provider, HP revealed that the new services and solutions in its HP Secure Advantage line will help clients come up with comprehensive security strategies across the cloud or enterprise. The company has also consolidated its extensive expertise, broadened portfolio and strong partner relations in order to deliver one source that will satisfy the security requirements including various forms of threats and regulatory pressure. This will, in turn, help reduce complexity, risks and overhead costs.

Some of the enhanced solutions mainly cater to desktop systems and printer security but web hosting services and enterprise system administrators will probably be interested in a couple of complex compliance regulation features as well as the ones that cover validation compliance.

The HP Business Service Automation Essentials Networks will offer ease of reporting and management of latest regulatory compliance standards in the same dashboard. Meanwhile, the Security Content Automation Protocol certification enhances compliance report communication. This will allow clients to see their current compliance status on managed devices and even share these reports with their auditors.

A survey conducted by Hibernia Evros Technology Group found that firms are opting for IT outsourcing not only so they can focus on their core business processes but also to save on costs.

More than fifty percent of the firms that were surveyed were composed of Irish small and medium-scale enterprises - or companies that employ a maximum of 250 people.

The survey found that 63 percent of these businesses consider the need to focus on their core businesses as a reason for outsourcing. Cost savings came out as the second most popular reason, chosen by 51 percent of respondents. Almost half or 47 percent said that they opted to source IT functions in order to release internal IT staff and give way to more strategic worth.
Hardware support is the most commonly outsourced IT function (72%). This is followed by managed hosting at 41%. Security or virus protection and network management share the third position at 38%.

According to John Kennedy, marketing director for Hibernia Evros Technology Group, Irish companies implement sophisticated outsourcing strategies. The market perception states that Ireland-based companies are hesitant when it comes to the idea of outsourcing but this survey states otherwise, he explains. This may be due to the current economic downturn. The financial crunch is encouraging firms to work more on their core businesses and tap into new opportunities for reducing the internal expenditures.
The survey also asked respondents who chose not to outsource about the reasons for their decision. More than a third or 39 percent say that they already have a capable IT team. A quarter find it cheaper to manage their IT solutions in-house while 12 percent fear the loss of control over their IT department.

To date there are two types of fume detectors, and the most usually utilized are the ionization sensors. They are cheap, call for small space, and are far more capable than the other type which are the photoelectric sensors.

ionization Sensor

The ionisation sensor uses two plates with opposite voltages and a minute quantity of Americium-241. The voltage is usually supplied by a cell and all are housed in an air flowing metal chamber. The actual body of chamber functions as the negative plate and the positive plate encases the Americium. The Americium generates alpha molecules. These molecules ionize the oxygen and nitrogen atoms of the air inside the chamber. What in reality takes place is nothing more than a knocking off of electrons. As the electrons are knocked off, the air atom gets positively charged and draws to the negative plate, while the electron gets retracted to the positive plate. In The Meantime, the electrical circuits inside the sensor senses if there are no perturbations to the pattern.

Because the chamber is open, air passes through freely and gets ionised. As fume goes into the chamber, the ionization operation is disrupted and consequently ignites the electric horn to sound off.

Photoelectrical Sensors

Photoelectric sensors are not widely utilized because it takes a lot of smoke before the alarm goes off. Proprietors are concerned that it might be too late once the warning signal sounds. Photoelectric sensors consist of 2 channels, one is to emit light and the other detects it. If fume particles are present in the air, this will interfere with the signal and the alarm goes off.

Researchers at the Swedish National Institute for Working Life reported that people who use cell phones for more than an hour a day for ten years are at significantly increased risk for brain cancers (International Archives of Occupational and Environmental Health, April, 2006). This study disagrees with the Dutch Health Council study and a British survey, both released this year, that failed to show increased any risk. Most studies so far have failed to show an association between cell phones and brain tumors.

Cell phones emit low dose microwaves that do not cause cancer because unlike X rays, they are not strong enough to break bonds that hold molecules together. The only way that microwaves can cause cell damage is by producing heat. A study in the British Journal, Nature (May 25, 2001) showed that microwaves cause roundworms to release heat shock proteins that are a sign of tissue injury.

Nobody is concerned with the energy generated by electromagnetic waves that come into your cell phone. The concern is the energy necessary to send a signal from your phone to the tower many miles away. This 800 to 900 MHz range radio frequency comes almost exclusively from the antenna on the phone and not from the phone itself. Since the issue is not settled, it would be wise to keep the antenna at least two inches away from your skin, preferably with a wired or wireless earpiece. Sound waves in an earpiece have never been implicated in any type of damage.
